Big Garden Bird Watch 2006
Regular readers will know that last year, dozens of Land and People readers took part in the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds’ (RSPB) Big Garden Birdwatch!
This year, the RSPB is running the same event – called 2006 Big Garden Birdwatch – would you believe?
You, too, can take part. You don’t need to live on the wilds of Exmoor, or own an extensive garden. A trip to your nearest park or open green space will do!
The great thing about the Big Garden Birdwatch is that it is so simple.
All you need is a window, and a pen and paper, and you can take part. The Birdwatch takes place at the end of January, and all you need to do in order to take part is to set yourself up for an hour, and watch and count visiting bird numbers per species. And if you can’t tell the difference between a blackbird and a dove, no matter, as the RSPB has a down-loadable bird identification and tally form available for your use!
It is as simple as that!
Last January, the RSPB estimated that over 300,000 people spent an hour or more in watching their local birds. Between them, they recorded over 6 million birds in a total of more than 200,000 British locations.
The next Big Garden Birdwatch takes place on 28-29 January 2006.
We would love you to take part, and further information is available by going to the RSPB web site at:
